Contemporary/Modern 12+

Contemporary/Modern combines elements of several genres including Modern, release technique contemporary, ballet, jazz and more.  It employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, as well as more classical techniques for an adventurous dance experience. This class will hone and challenge patterns, and will include floorwork and across the floor combos, and is designed for all dancers regardless of prior experience. Hilary enjoys using a variety of styles of music in the class, and will be a lot of fun. 

This Term is longer than the fall one, and runs Jan.9th until April 30th and culminates in the 12th Annual DanceFusion Showcase (Dress Rehearsal April 27th, shows April 28th-30th). There will be a costume fee that will need to be paid and strong attendance through the term is required. Attendance at stage rehearsals and showcase is required as well.

Hilary received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Dance from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University). She’s had the opportunity to work with many incredibly talented teachers and choreographers including teachers from The National Ballet of Canada, Kaeja d’Dance, and Toronto Dance theatre and choreographer Hanna Kiel of “Human Body Expressions.”
Hilary also completed her 200 Yoga Teacher Training in 2019.
Hilary’s had the honour of performing at the Paralympic Games opening ceremony, numerous works at Dance Ontario’s Dance Weekend, on Disney channel’s “The Next Step” pilot episode, and in many student and guest choreographed shows while at University.
Hilary’s passions have always been in dance and movement, as well as teaching. She’s been teaching dance for over a decade to dancers of all ages and abilities, around London and Toronto. She’s working to pursue a Bachelors of Education and eventually teach elementary school alongside teaching dance.

Turns & Jumps 12+

Sharpen your skills with jazz technique!  The class includes a dance warm-up that conditions and stretches. Then students drill centre exercises and then across-the-floor exercises, for example, pirouettes, Chaîné turns, Piques, Battements, Jetés, Switch Splits, Stag jumps, Attitude Turns and more. This is an excellent technique class that compliments Jazz, Ballet and Acro and Contemporary very well.

Lyrical Jazz 10-13yrs

Lyrical Jazz is dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, and modern dance and is an expressive form of dance.  Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use movement to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer’s movements attempt to show the meaning/mood of the music.   Emphasis will be placed on students exploring emotions within their movement.     It is all built on a foundation of technique that includes turns, kicks and jumps and all set to uplifting current music.  This class will be open level, so will cater to a variety of previous dance experience. Dancers develop coordination, musicality and artistry.

Ballet 5-7yrs

A fun and engaging class to introduce the foundation of Ballet technique. The class will use centre exercises, movements across the floor, fun games and stretching/strengthening to increase body awareness, alignment, flexibility, and coordination. Students will learn ballet positions and vocabulary and develop creative movement skills in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. This is a very popular class and is an excellent intro to dance.

Jazz Intermediate 13+

*Dancers must be enrolled in 2-3 classes to register for this class, email for exceptions.

Hilary will share her extensive training to hone the dancers’ alignment, extensions, and musicality.  Her style of Jazz is more grounded and vernacular with a contemporary tilt. She likes to lean into the more commercial style of jazz every so often as well. Classes will focus on strength, balancing, flexibility and rhythm. Students will learn, with proper technique; kicks, turns and jumps. Develop flexibility and strength alongside solid dance technique with across the floor skills and fun combos. This class is for experienced dancers as it is more face paced and complex.
