Jazz Adult-Open level 15yrs+

This class will be open-level, so if you danced awhile ago, or are excited to try something new, this will be a short teaser of a session to dip your toes in, or back in! Hilary enjoys adding vernacular jazz into her class flow, so be ready to feel the rhythm.

Jazz dance paralleled the birth and spread of jazz itself from its roots in Black American culture and was popularized in ballrooms by the big bands of the swing era (1930s and ’40s). It radically altered the style of American and European stage and social dance in the 20th century. The term is sometimes used to describe popular stage dance and jazz-derived or jazz-influenced forms of modern dance.

Hilary will share her extensive training to hone the dancers’ alignment, extensions, and musicality…but the focus will be on fun!  Variety of levels, no experience required!

Classes will focus on strength, balancing, flexibility and rhythm. Students will learn, with proper technique; kicks, turns and jumps. Develop flexibility and strength alongside solid dance technique with across-the-floor skills and fun combos.

Short first term runs Sept 19th- Oct. 10th, 2024. Fee is $85+gst.

Class is head at Studio Alive in uphill Nelson.

Dancefusion is thrilled to welcome Hilary back to our teaching team.

Contemporary 12-18yrs

Contemporary is a style of dance that combines elements of several genres including modern, release, classical technique, and more, depending on the instructor and choreography. Often in terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance can combine floorwork and modern dance’s stress on the torso, but is not confined to these techniques. Contemporary at DanceFusion also employs contact-release, lots of floor work, good tunes and improvisation. We look to be adventurous, curious, relevant and inspiring.
Dancers develop coordination, musicality and artistry.

Open-level, no prior experience needed.

Join us in this innovative ballet experience where joy, fluidity, and the thrill of movement take centre stage, creating a class that celebrates the beauty of ballet without being bound by tradition.  Students will develop technique through barre, centre work and across-the-floor exercises. Working on honing in on musicality, precision and focus while fostering the grace and strength this form has to offer.    Ballet is a rich and varied form, and Hilary will offer a class that will integrate healthy alignment, challenge muscle memory, and develop musicality.
