Contemporary dance class combines concepts of modern dance with ballet and popular dance styles. It employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisational tasks meant to engage the creative side of the dancer. Using structured and specific sequences dancers will sharpen their bodies and minds, while dancing low and with athletic flow. Level 2 requires dancers to be in additional classes weekly including ballet.

Contemporary Open level Adult 15+yrs

This Contemporary class combines elements of several genres including modern, release, and more. It employs contact-release, floor work, all set to diverse and hype music with fun drills to develop musicality. This class will hone and challenge your dance patterns, and will include floor work and jumps and turns, and is designed for dancers of all levels.
Students will learn combos,  technique and across the floor sequences as well. The class will include floor work, and is geared towards movement quality and fluidity within new patterns.
It is open level, so movements will be layered for a range of experience levels.

This Term (Jan.11th – April.28th) is longer than the fall one and culminates in the 13th Annual DanceFusion Showcase (Dress Rehearsal April 25th, shows April 26th-28th). There will be a costume fee that will need to be paid and strong attendance through the term is required. Attendance at stage rehearsals and showcases is required as well.

Class is fast paced, athletic and is designed for experienced movers looking for a more complex and challenging class physically and mentally.

Slava is excited to offer this fun, upbeat class combining elements of several genres including contemporary, lyrical jazz, ballet, street styles and more.  Dancers listen to a wide variety of music including current popular music and develop musicality thru movement. This class will hone and challenge your dance patterns, and will include floor work and jumps and turns, and is designed for dancers of all levels. Students will learn combos, choreography and technique as well.

The classes vary from fluid lyrical movements to athletic leaps and jumps, street styles, fancy footwork, and intricate hand and arm movements, and partner work. The aim is to create an adventurous dance experience that incorporates a down to earth aesthetic with a contemporary outlook.

Class is fast paced, athletic and will include conditioning for enhanced floorwork. It is designed for experienced movers looking for a more complex and challenging class physically and mentally.  Taking the House class before is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, with only an hour, dancers should be warm, and the class prior is a perfect preparation for the contemporary material students will delve into.

Students must be enrolled in 3+ classes a week to enrol in this class, exceptions can be made for experienced movers, email with questions.

Trained in classical ballet from a young age, Ava is a dedicated instructor, bringing a unique blend of technical precision and artistic flair to class. Fostering a love for dance while nurturing each student’s potential. She has attended and been accepted to numerous dance programs from Kootenay Dance Works in Rossland where she started, to prestigious schools such as Arts Umbrella, Houston Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Jorgen. With a career marked by passion, dedication, and a profound love for the art of dance, Ava is excited to join the Dance Fusion team this winter.

This class will hone and challenge your dance patterns, and will include floor work and jumps and turns, and is designed for dancers of all levels. Students will learn combos, and technique as well. The class will include floorwork, and is geared towards movement quality and pushing the comfort zone with coordination challenges.
New Teacher Alert! Katherine Wall took her first dance class at the age of six in PEI, and has been in constant motion since. She started dancing intensively at the Doris Sitter School Of Dance in Saskatchewan, where she trained primarily in jazz and acro dance and competed in festivals around the province. In 2016, Katherine moved to Nelson and began dancing with Slava Doval, taking a multitude of classes in contemporary, ballet, and hip hop through Dance Fusion. She was accepted into the LVR Dance Academy in 2021, where she spent two years training in ballet, jazz,
contemporary, and modern techniques while also gaining experience as a contemporary choreographer.
Katherine has had opportunities to participate in masterclasses from Shay Kuebler (Radical System Art), Joshua Beamish (MOVETHECOMPANY), Acacia Schachte (Royal Ballet
Flanders), Joanna Lige (Ballet Kelowna), and Alyssa Marshi (Her Tribal Roots), as well as training in various styles at the Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver. An avid member of the
local theatre community, Katherine has worked as the Assistant Choreographer for the Capitol Theatre Summer Youth Program for the past two years, choreographing and rehearsing pieces for “Newsies” and “Matilda”.
Although she loves to experiment with many different styles, Katherine’s focus has shifted towards contemporary dance and creative techniques for improvisation. She is incredibly excited to continue pursuing her passion for dance, both as a performer and as a choreographer.

DF Performance Youth

Placement by audition. Email for information about joining this unique training opportunity.

For dancers ages 15+ with 5+ years of dance experience, including Ballet and Contemporary and HipHop. This group has more performance and training commitments, and requires dedication to attendance, extra rehearsals, and motivation to work hard at an athletic level and develop leadership skills as well as team building cooperation.
Students need to be enrolled in 3+ classes a week as a pre requisite.

Contemporary 8-11yrs

Contemporary is a style of dance that combines elements of several genres including modern, release, classical technique, and more, depending on the instructor and choreography. Often in terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance can combine floorwork and modern dance’s stress on the torso, but is not confined to these techniques. Contemporary at DanceFusion also employs contact-release,  floor work, fall and recovery, emotive qualities and improvisation. We look to be adventurous, curious, relevant and inspiring.
Dancers develop coordination, musicality and artistry. Dancers will develop coordination and musicality and create a choreography.

Fabiola is excited to share her passion for Contemporary and weave a rich class that explores a variety of movement styles. The classes vary from fluid lyrical movements, to release techniques, across the floor combos and centre work. We aim to create an adventurous dance experience that incorporates a down-to-earth aesthetic with a contemporary flavour.

No prior experience is needed, total beginners are welcome. The class is open level and there will be enough variety to inspire dancers with experience as well.

Slava weaves her varied movement experience into a rich class that explores a variety of movement styles. The classes vary from fluid lyrical movements to athletic leaps and jumps, classical technique, fancy footwork, and intricate hands and arm movements. Slava aims to create an adventurous dance experience that incorporates a down to earth aesthetic in a fun and focussed atmosphere.

This class is for dancers with prior experience ( 3+years) and will be a more faced paced, complex class. Dancers must be enrolled in 3+ classes a week this year, and 3 years of continuous prior dance experience in 2+ classes a week. Email for questions about placement.
