Lyrical Acro-Dance 9-12yrs

This class will run again in September 2024, check back in August for registration.

Lyrical is dance style that blends various styles and is an expressive form of dance. Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use movement to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer’s movements attempt to show the meaning/mood of the music.  It is all built on a foundation of technique that includes turns, kicks and jumps and all set to uplifting current music.
This class will be open level, so will cater to a variety of previous dance experience. Dancers develop coordination, musicality and artistry. Acrobatic training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, discipline, and concentration. A dancer will gain more flexibility and strength to achieve skills thru safe and progressive training.  The goal is to place Acro skills into a dance routine, therefore blending artistry with athleticism.
OPEN LEVEL: For this level dancers do not need prior experience, as there will be a variety of skills and progressions introduced to safely be able to accommodate where they are at.
DanceFusion is an Acrobatic Arts Certified Studio.

She has attended and been accepted to numerous dance programs from Kootenay Dance Works in Rossland where she started, to prestigious schools such as Arts Umbrella, Houston Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Jorgen. With a career marked by passion, dedication, and a profound love for the art of dance, Ava is excited to join the Dance Fusion team.

Acrobatic training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, discipline, and concentration. A dancer will gain more flexibility and strength to achieve skills thru safe and progressive training. Dancers will learn through games, drills, and techniques to develop their skills. Acrobatic movements can include handstands somersaults, headstands, and cartwheels, bridge, walkovers and more! The goal is to place Acro skills into a dance routine, therefore blending artistry with athleticism.
For this level dancers do not need prior experience, as there will be a variety of skills and progressions introduced to safely be able to accommodate where they are at.
Individual exercises will be given to fit their ability as students will have different needs and may be ready for more advanced skills.

The classes vary from fluid lyrical movements to athletic leaps and jumps, street styles, fancy footwork, and intricate hand and arm movements. The aim is to create an adventurous dance experience that incorporates a down to earth aesthetic with a contemporary outlook.

Class is fast-paced, athletic and designed for dancers with a background in dance, intended for movers looking for a more complex and challenging class physically and mentally.

Class is fast paced, athletic and will include conditioning for enhanced floorwork. It is designed for experienced movers looking for a more complex and challenging class physically and mentally.

Students must be enrolled in 3+ classes a week to enrol in this class, exceptions can be made for experienced movers, email with questions.

Contemporary Open 11yrs+

This Contemporary class combines elements of several genres including modern, release, lyrical, and more.  It employs contact-release, floor work, current popular music and fun drills to develop musicality. This class will hone and challenge your dance patterns, and will include floor work and jumps and turns, and is designed for dancers of all levels. Students will learn combos, and technique as well. The class will include floorwork, and is geared towards movement quality and pushing the comfort zone with coordination challenges.

Cloe Comstock will be guest teaching this spring before she heads back to Montreal where she was recently accepted into the highly competitive professional program of École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal.

HipHop Intermediate 12-15yrs

This Hip Hop class will integrate party dances of the 80′s and 90′s to the present day, as well as choreography, and stretching muscle memory to work on a routine to perform. It includes a wide range of styles and will integrate some elements of Breaking as well. The class will include conversations about Hip Hop Culture and its history and roots.
This class is NOT A BEGINNER Class, it is aimed at students who have done HipHop for 3+ years, who understand the FUNdamentals and already can do moves like the Bart Simpson, Running Man, Gucci, Biz Markie, Roof Top, Latin Rock, Reebok, etc and are ready to focus on a more fast-paced and complex class.

HipHop-Intermediate (15yrs+)

This HipHop class will include will integrate party dances of the 80′s and 90′s to the present day, as well as choreography, and across-the-floor moves.
This class is for students who have done HipHop before,  have a solid foundation and are confident and ready to push themselves with faster-paced and complex choreography.

We are pumped for Angelia Thomson to teach this choreo-based class for the spring term before she heads off to UBC.  The focus will be on learning a routine that will be performed and filmed the final day of class for family and friends.

For students that are enrolled in at least 2+ classes a week! Email for exceptions.

Acro-Dance Intermediate 8-11yrs

This is not a beginner/open level class, and is geared toward dancers with prior dance AND acro experience.

Cost is $95+ GST

For this level dancers need to be able to:

~go from standing down to a bridge on their own or with a spot and then hold bridge for at least 10 sec with heels down.

~do a forward roll(no heading touching mat)

~handstand with good form, even if not able to hold

~proficient cartwheel on one side

~hold plank for 30 secs.

We will work safely from this base of skills.

It is strongly recommended that students enrol in one other class to support dance technique/development and coordination at this level. Ballet, HipHop, or  DanceFusion are excellent 2nd class options.

Acro Dance Intermediate 13yrs+

Acrobatic training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. It is an excellent way to learn spatial awareness, an important element in ensemble work.
Acrobatic movements can include bridges, walk-overs, handstands, hand balances, somersaults, and cartwheel variations and more! This class is geared for students to work on skills at an appropriate level to their previous experience, a range of skills will be worked on.  It is geared toward students with prior dance and acro experience. This is not an open level or beginner class. If you are new to the studio or this class/level please email to check about placement.

The goal is to place Acro skills into a dance routine, therefore blending artistry with athleticism.
A second dance class is required for dancers at this level.
DanceFusion is an Acrobatic Arts Certified Studio.

FusionFocus Technique Intermediate 12-16yrs

This is a special spring offering for intermediate students who are dedicated to pushing themselves in their dance training. This is not an open class and is by placement. Email for info.

Dancers must be enrolled in 3+ classes a week this year, and 3 years of continuous prior dance experience in 3+ classes a week. Cloe Comstock will be guest teaching this spring before she heads back to Montreal where she was recently accepted into the highly competitive professional program of École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal.  

The class will cover Contemporary as well as Ballet technique and will be a chance for dancers to push their artistry and skill.
